JEC World 2022 DAY 2: Thermoforming cores for significant weight savings using adaptive mold technology

The presentation will focus on the use of adaptive mold technology for thermoforming cores for the marine, wind and composite manufacturing industries. A review of what an adaptive mold is, how it works, how it is programmed and the variety of shapes that a single mold can produce will be presented. The technology incorporates a proprietary mold surface and laser-guided tracking system to ensure repeatable, consistent part production. Following, there will be a case study on a boat hull core schedule that was manufactured resulting in a 20%+ weight reduction.
