High tech composite bridge lays foundation for safe, sustainable future

A new composites bridge nearing completion in a rural Tennessee community near Knoxville is aimed at demonstrating fiber-reinforced polymer composite materials, or FRPs, as a sustainable solution for improving thousands of structurally deficient rura

Led by IACMI-The Composites Institute and the Composite Applications Group, this project moves innovative low-cost composite bridge deck technology from DOT laboratory qualification to a fielded prototype. IACMI's "Infrastructure and Construction" Working Group showcased the composite bridge progress during the IACMI 2021 Winters Members Meeting on Feb. 18, 2021.
