Living in a Material(s) World: Eco-Minded Design Firm Adapts Quickly to Change

San Francisco–based design firm Lingrove originally used Ekoa, its proprietary natural composite made of flax linen and resin, to create guitars that not only sounded great but were also more sustainable than their wood-based counterparts.

In 2019, the company decided to expand its use of Ekoa to office furniture—and businesses eager to replace wood, plastic, and metals sat up and took notice. Then, when the pandemic hit, Lingrove engineered another successful pivot, using Autodesk Fusion 360 to create what CEO Joe Luttwak calls “pieces that can enhance the work-from-home experience,” such as shelves and wall treatments.
