JEC World 2022 DAY 1: The positive impact of material and process development on structural thermoplastic composite tunnel brackets a cost-effective light weighting solution.

Light weighting has become increasingly important to Automotive OEMs, that’s why Coats’ Lattice Composite Technologies have been developed to offer a cost-effective light weighting solution. One of Coats’ recent projects together with Plascam AS. was the production of thermoplastic composite tunnel brackets which reduce dependency on fossil fuels and improve overall driving safety by using lighter composite components. The composite part was designed according to the mechanical simulation, material analysis and test results resulting in a component that out performs the steel variant whilst providing a 45% weight saving in average.
