Development of Faurecia’s New Generation of Composite 700 Bar XL Hydrogen Tanks: Benefits and Challenges Brought by Composite Material

Faurecia's expert exposes the main challenges from a material point of view that were encountered during the development of its new range of hydrogen tanks.

Faurecia, a FORVIA Group company, develop, manufacture and deliver compressed hydrogen storage systems for hydrogen distribution and transportation as well as hydrogen mobility.

Faurecia's hydrogen storage systems that integrate composite tanks have been on the roads since 2021 and are now present on several vehicles:

The Hyundai X-Cient truck, equipped with a complete hydrogen storage system at 350 bar integrated behind the cabin;
The Stellantis vans portfolio (Opel Vivaro-e, Citroen e-Jumpy, Peugeot e-Expert) and Renault Master H2-Tech van manufactured by Hyvia equipped with a complete hydrogen storage system at 700 bar integrated underfloor or on the top depending on vehicles configurations.
In order to maximize the driving range, Faurecia has developed a new generation of 700 bar high-volume hydrogen tanks called XL Tanks, designed to replace existing fuel tank located in the wheelbase.

During this presentation, our expert will expose the main challenges from a material point of view that were encountered during the development of this new range of tanks.
