Determination of Composite Material Allowables Based on a Combination of Virtual Analysis and Experimental Testing: a Test Case using Digimat and MaterialCenter

Hexagon helps to easily implement an automated and digital approach for the characterization of composite materials. Discover more!

The Digital Transformation of materials is key in the aerospace industry and material science. The increasing need for faster material characterization, while reducing costs, leads to the development of smarter approaches that facilitate effective automation and digitalization. These include the automatic evaluation of the obtained results. Nowadays, the results are mostly evaluated manually by the scientist. To optimize this process, increasingly automatic evaluation tools are needed. However, the accuracy of the analysis should not be lost during the automation and digitalization, and time-related improvements. Hexagon can help easily implement an automated and digital approach for the characterization of composite materials by using Digimat-VA and MaterialCenter. This work aims to show how material allowable can be derived from a mix of experimental testing and virtual analyses. A comparison with a full experimental testing campaign is presented.
